BREAKING: Suicide bomb blast kills several in southeast Iran

A suicide bomber killed at least four people outside a police headquarters in the port city of Chabahar in restive southeastern Iran on Thursday, its governor said.

Chabahar governor Rahmdel Bameri said many people were also wounded in the morning car bombing.
"The explosion was very strong and broke the glass of many buildings close by," Bameri told state television.
Many nearby shop owners and civilian passers-by, including women and children, were severely wounded, he added.
Chabahar lies in Sistan-Baluchistan province some 100 kilometres (60 miles) west of the Pakistan border.
The province has a large, mainly Sunni Muslim ethnic Baluchi community which straddles the border and has long been a flashpoint, with Pakistan-based Baluchi separatists and jihadists carrying out cross-border attacks targeting the Shiite authorities.
The province's deputy governor in charge of security, Mohammad Hadi Marashi, said multiple assailants took part in Thursday's attack.
"The terrorists tried to enter Chabahar police headquarters but they were prevented by the guards and they detonated the car bomb," he said.
Chabahar has a deep-water port on the Gulf of Oman and with Indian assistance Iran has been developing it as a a major energy and freight hub between Central Asia and India, bypassing Pakistan.

Islamic State claims suicide bomb blast at Afghan intelligence agency in Kabul

KABUL - Islamic State claimed responsibility for a suicide attack on Monday on a compound of Afghanistan’s national intelligence agency in Kabul, which killed at least five people and wounded two.

The blast comes a week after the group claimed responsibility for an attack on a training facility of the same agency, the National Directorate for Security, in Kabul that ended when the attackers were killed before causing significant casualties.
In a statement issued through the group’s Amaq news agency, Islamic State said it was also behind Monday’s attack.

In Kabul, security officials said the explosion was caused by a suicide bomber who approached the agency’s entrance on foot before blowing himself up. All the casualties reported were of civilian passersby.

Najib Danish, a spokesman for the interior ministry, said at least five people were killed and two wounded.
U.S. President Donald Trump has been briefed on the attack, White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders said.

Islamic State’s local affiliate, which first appeared in eastern Afghanistan near the border with Pakistan in early 2015, has become increasingly active and has claimed several recent suicide attacks in Kabul.

RELATED COVERAGE

It has frequently fought Taliban militants and has been heavily targeted by U.S. air strikes and Special Forces operations in its main stronghold in Nangarhar province.
But there remains considerable uncertainty about how the group operates and the exact nature of its connections with Islamic State in Iraq and Syria.

Deadly suicide bomb blast on church in southwest Pakistan

At least four people were killed and and 18 wounded on Sunday after two suicide attackers stormed a church in the restive southwestern Pakistani city of Quetta Sunday, officials said, just over a week before Christmas.

Sarfaraz Bugti, home minister for Baluchistan province, says hundreds of worshippers were attending services at the church ahead of Christmas. He says one attacker was killed at the entrance to the church while the other set off his payload inside. Police officer Mohammad Atiq confirmed the toll.
Local television showed ambulances and security patrols racing to the scene while women and children were being led out of the church's main gate.
No one immediately claimed responsibility for the attack. Muslim extremists have targeted Pakistan's Christian minority in the past.
