At least two explosions have been reported in Kabul's diplomatic area, shortly after the end of a visit by US Secretary of State John Kerry.
It was not immediately clear whether there were any casualties from the blasts.
Gunshots were also heard at the time of the explosions, which come after a period of relative calm in the city.
The Taliban have previously attacked prominent official and foreign targets in the Afghan capital.
Mr Kerry had held meetings with President Ashraf Ghani and the country's Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah.
Mr Ghani said they all hoped the Taliban would engage in peace talks and craft "a legitimate process that brings an end to violence."
After those meetings, Mr Kerry said there was no fixed date for an end to the power-sharing deal between the two rival leaders.
After the deal, there were expectations that a Loya Jirga, a special assembly of elders, would be convened within two years to amend the constitution and create the post of an executive prime minister.
The visit came at a time when Nato forces are increasingly being deployed in battle zones to support Afghan forces fighting the Taliban.
