Live dates: July 26th - August 5th 2011

Current round: Opening

Dear Reader,

Is the euro worth the trouble it is causing, politically and economically? Is it time to dump the single currency? Our debate begins today, and we would like to hear what you have to say. Vote now and tell us your views.

Moderator's comments
Is the whole experiment of a monetary union without a fiscal and political union a terrible mistake? Instead of wondering, as we did in a debate last year, whether the euro will survive, we ask our debaters to consider whether it would not be better to kill it off.

There will be many valuable, interesting and pithy contributions from the floor. For now, I hope the debaters will expand on their arguments. And indeed, to both our contributors, is anybody asking Europe's citizens what they want?
