TV Critics Get Set For Summer Press Tour (FishbowlLA)
When it comes to the winter and summer press tours put on by the Television Critics Association, hindsight is sometimes anything but a 20 share/20 share. Opening day presentations Wednesday will be made by The Weather Channel, ESPN, Hallmark, History, Lifetime, GMC, Univision, and Playboy TV.

Fox Plans Paywall For Next-Day Online Access (B&C)
Fox is changing the way viewers access new TV episodes online so that only subscribers to select multichannel providers will be able to view those shows online one day after they air. CNET / Digital Media: Beginning Aug. 15, only those people who subscribe to a participating video distributor will be able to view TV shows on an Internet portal the day after shows air on the network. WSJ: New episodes of Fox shows, including Glee and Family Guy, will no longer be available to watch free on Fox.com or video site Hulu until eight days after they debut. paidContent: Authenticated subs will be able to log in at Fox.com, Hulu.com, or Dishonline.com, while friends without those benefits can't. NYT: At least one of Hulu's other network partners, ABC, is contemplating setting a similar limit, according to people with knowledge of the discussions. ReadWriteWeb: The immediate reaction is that Fox is hamstringing Hulu by putting around one-third of its content behind a verification wall. On Twitter, the reaction is just about the same as was seen when Netflix announced its new pricing structure: "f___ Fox and f___ Hulu." Really, users do not like it when companies start messing with business models they have come to rely on, especially if they were once free. AllThingsD: It's perfectly logical for the TV networks to try to lock up their shows online. Except for the part about it not working.

Google Might Buy Hulu, But It Would Rather Fund The Next MTV Or ESPN (Business Insider / Silicon Alley Insider)
Google might buy Hulu to get access to today's popular TV shows for YouTube and its other products. But a person with knowledge of Google's video strategy says that Robert Kynci -- the executive Google hired away from Netflix last year -- is more interested in building and funding professional Web video.

CNN's Piers Morgan 'Told Interviewer Stories Were Published Based On Phone Tapping' (The Telegraph)
Piers Morgan, the CNN broadcaster, has said that newspaper articles based on the findings of people paid to tap phones and rake through bins were published during his time as a tabloid newspaper editor, it can be disclosed. Forbes / Mixed Media: Morgan has vociferously denied personal involvement in or knowledge of anything like that under his watch -- but a prominent political blogger claims to have a recording that proves otherwise. HuffPost: Morgan edited Rupert Murdoch's News of the World from 1994-95, before jumping to Murdoch's main tabloid rival, the Daily Mirror, in 1995. He edited the Mirror until 2004, when he was forced out over a faked photo scandal involving the British military. NY Observer: One News Corp. property that has flown under the radar throughout the company's recent melodramas is The Daily -- the tablet newspaper launched to great fanfare in the basement of the Guggenheim in February. Adweek / AdFreak: German lingerie maker Blush nakedly (or almost nakedly) piggybacks on the Murdoch and News International phone hacking scandal in new ads mocked up in News of the World style, complete with scandalous headlines aimed at Rupert and James, as well as Rebekah Brooks.

Anderson Cooper Wants Daytime Talker To Be 'Smart, Honest, Provocative' (B&C)
Anderson, the new Telepictures-produced daytime talker debuting Sept. 12, will be distinguished in daytime by its honesty. So say the powers behind the show in a sitdown with B&C prior to meeting with a group of television critics during the Television Critics Association summer press tour Tuesday at the Beverly Hilton. TheWrap.com / Media Alley: Will Anderson Cooper be able to balance his duties as CNN's primetime star -- and frequent foreign correspondent -- with his new gig as a daytime talk show host? Cooper's answer? Yes -- without equivocation or reservation.

Rachel Maddow, MSNBC Sued For Defamation (WorldNetDaily)
A lawsuit seeking in excess of $50 million has been prepared against MSNBC and its talk-show entertainer Rachel Maddow over statements she made about a Minnesota-based ministry.

If Your News Site Isn't Social, Great Design Won't Matter (GigaOM)
There's been a lot of sound and fury in the media sphere recently, sparked by a blog post from Web designer Andy Rutledge that tore apart The New York Times' website for being ugly and cluttered. But the biggest blunder Rutledge commits is when he argues that news sites should avoid social-recommendation elements, when the opposite is true.

Why Was Amy Winehouse's Obit On A1 Of The L.A. Times And Not Betty Ford's? (FishbowlLA)
The Los Angeles Times is taking a little heat from one of its readers over the decision to run the obit of Amy Winehouse on its cover, but not that of former first lady Betty Ford.

About.com Vet Darline Jean Promoted To CEO; Will Report To Nisenholtz (paidContent)
The New York Times Co. is making some personnel shifts at its About Group unit once again with the promotion of chief financial officer Darline Jean to CEO. In addition, About is also making some adjustments to its executive sales team. NYT / Media Decoder: About has been struggling with declining revenue and Web traffic since Google changed both the way it directs traffic to informational sites like About.com and the way it allows those sites to collect revenue from ads that users click on.

Nice Timing: Facebook Debuts 'Facebook For Business' (GigaOM)
Facebook Tuesday debuted a step-by-step online guide aimed at helping small businesses use the social networking site. Mashable: As businesses clamor to join Google+, it may be no coincidence that Facebook has introduced a new site walking potential advertisers through the process of advertising and marketing on the social network.

Googlers Are Shocked By How Much You Like Google+ (Business Insider / Silicon Alley Insider)
As of about a week ago, Google+ was already up to 10 million users. A Google source tells us people inside the company are shocked -- pleasantly -- by that figure. Wired / Epicenter: After a steady stream of angry blog posts and heated debate among its own users over the value of pseudonymity on the Web, Google announced Monday that it was revising its "real name" policy, at least for display, on Google+. ReadWriteWeb: A developer by the name of Robert Norris Hills recently created a bot that automatically adds users to Circles on Google+. The bot runs until it reaches the friend limit of 5,000, then removes the Circle it created and starts again, keeping those who added it back. AllFacebook: We're long overdue for our own reader poll. We're curious to see how sentiments may have changed since we asked you all in March whether you'd use the +1 in addition to the Facebook like to share content with friends.
